Default Questions about Flowmasters

Hey Guys:
This is my first post here. I've got a 2000 Ram 1500 Quad Cab with a 318(5.2L) and a 5spd tranny. I've thought about putting a flowmaster exhaust and was wondering what can I expect in terms of performance. Is there an increase in mileage, horsepower? Just curious.

Thanks
John

i am thinking maybe 1 or 2 mpg and maybe 5-10 horsepower. the main reason to buy the flowmaster is the sound i think.

it depends... the tailpipes are the most important part..i learned this from a good buddy Steve... if you go with something like 2.5 inch tailpipes.. youll loose alot of low end tq which is where you get your mpg but gain in the higher rpm HP range... if you stick to the 2.25 inch tailpipes youll gain more in the low end tq and gain your mpg... youll still get more HP... just in a different spot in the rpm range... remember a few important things... backpressure is a proven requirement for motors with EFI ,, technically scavaging is what you want... kind like creating a vacume in the pipes.. keep the gasses hot enough to suck themselves out of the pipes obvioulsy more technical then that.. theres a ***-ton buttload of threads about this topic and if your new to DF then use the search method and you can learn ALOT about your truck REALLY quick.,.,, 2.25 is where youll want to stick to ... its the best way to go!!! some may not agree but it really depends what your lookin for.. WELCOME TO DF!!!!

What i did was get the kit from flowmasters with the 50 series suv muffler and the stainless dual rear exit tips...i thinkthere 2.25". Then went out and got a high flow cat. The cat made the exaust soound SO! much louder and meaner......it will scare people away and it gives it an extreme amount of high rpm torque. Makes it lots of fun to drive. but the car alarms dont like it.
