I did my timing chain and water pump when I did mine, figured since I was there already might as well. Also you might want to upgrade to the Felpro gaskets on your Hughes kit, it's abit more but worth it imo

Okay I will consider those gaskets.

For pulling timing chain, I need a special tool to pull the harmonic balancer correct? Do I need anything special to pull the water pump? I've never disconnected the accessory belt so I'm not familar.

Thanks,

If it's leaking, do the water pump, timing chain/gears, and cover gasket. It's only a few more bolts to get there, and if you ignore it, you will get the opportunity to re-do a bunch of work.

The stock chain is a morse-syle, stamped link chain. No rollers. It is VERY prone to stretching, and since you have over 100K on the truck, you will find a good deal of slop. Get a good double roller timing set. You won't be sorry.

Thanks,
For the harmonic balancer I just rented a puller set from Autozone, nothing special needed for water pump. And another vote for the double-roller timing chain, I got a Comp Cams one from Amazon it was only $45

No rollers? Christ man. Ok. Don't want to redo work. Will I have to get a timing light and that jazz after pulling and replacing the timing components? OEM waterpump unit recommended?

Well my shopping cart is going to have to grow a bit from what it was. Will update and try to throw some install pictures up once I get to it.

No timing light needed, pcm controls that, moving the distributor sets fuel sync not timing. OEM waterpump is what I used.

No timing light needed, Just line up the marks on the gears. I have had some bad luck with water pumps. Got a brand new(not reman) pump from Bosch. It lasted the longest so far. 5 years to the day almost the bearings where growling and had to get a replacement(it was not leaking though). It was free because i got the lifetime warranty but still it's a pain redoing the same job over again. I am tempted the get an oem piece if this one craps out in another four years time.
