Sounds like I'm dealing with the same issue on my 01 Ram 1500 5.2. Somehow I've made it 19 years without needing an O2 sensor. Looks like the upstream sensor is easily accessible, but what's the trick to unhooking the plug? It's on top of the Transmission and i'm having a hell of a time getting both hands on it and also being able to see what i'm doing. I've got the red clip partially slid off of the plug, but just can't get the plug unhooked. There has to be a trick to this.

Yeah, that really wasn't the best place for a connector, unless you have gorillas working for you....

Its held in place by a little christmas tree like clip, if you can dislodge that, you can pull the connector down a bit further, where you can actually get both hands on it, and see what you are doing. I *think* there is a lock on it as well.

Ended up breaking the clip that held the plug down, but got it unplugged. Just need to let the PB blaster do it's job so I can eventually remove the sensor.

Nice. Did it fix the problem for you?

Everything I read was to try unhooking the upstream sensor and see if the truck goes back to a normal idle and it sure did. I've got the new sensor and will try to break the original loose today since it's been soaking for 24 hours in PB blaster. I'm hoping I can get this thing loose with just a wrench and breaker bar.

yeah that’s exactly what I would. For one that has been in there 19 years you might take a rod and put it against the metal part of the o2 sensor and give it some good taps. Break it free a bit. Then spray some more on Pb blaster and give it about 10 min. Then try with A breaker breaker bar.

I used a large pipe wrench, and smacked it with a hammer a couple times. Knocked it right loose.

you need to remove the intake and either reseal the plate on the bottom of the intake or buy a new thicker one and use a set of good fall to or cosmetic intake gasket when you go back together. Common problem on the magnum intakes. You can also buy an edelbrock intake for it and you won't have to worry about it anymore.
