Looks more fitting to slap a 12V Cummins into it! LOL. But he is right on the dashes, the instrument cluster set up is different on the 01 than the 97.

 

Because in 98, the way the PCM communicates with everything else, including the dash, changed. Also, the shape of the cluster changed as well, so, you can't just swap that in, gotta do the whole dash, and all the wiring therein.
