Question Best Gearing for tires

I currently am running 4.10s with 35s on the factory 16" laramie slt wheels.. I was looking at a set of factory 3rd gen steelies which are 17s with 305s. Would the 4.10s be good with 305s or would that hurt my mileage and top end?

If you convert your 305 from metric to inches it comes out to basically 35s
I believe

I thought 305s were like 32-33s and 315s were 35s? The tires on the truck now are 315/75/R16, i think the tires im looking at are 305/75/R17

You'd use a tire calculator. http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html, for example

4.10s for 33s. 4.56 for 35s. Don't be afraid of going deeper. Your trans will thank you. If you ever think you MIGHT get bigger tires in the future go ahead and gear for the future.

305/70/16 which I have on my truck are 32.8 at 12.5 wide u may not have to go to a 4.10 3.92 would be as good as 4.10 I just don't think u have to go in the 4 gears just me. a friend has a 86 chevy sub on 35/1250/15 running 3.73 good gas mileage for what it is. I have 3.55 gears still in mine at 70 mph rpm runs 1950 I don't wheel my truck so that would be a different story there's a gear change in the future

The gears i have in the truck now are 4.10s with 315/75/16, i wanted to go to a smaller tire and i have a set of 33s that i wanted to put on but my buddy was telling me id loose the gas mileage and top end with 33s and the 4.10s.

Ham Bone was saying about doing 4.56s and so did HeyYou if i was gonna run 35s would help the gas mileage.....i guess everything will be decided after i do the plenum gasket and distributor and rotor, then ill decide which route i wanna take for gears and tires.

Guys the gears aren't that deep for the tire. Gotta remember that we all have an Overdrive gear. it ain't an old three speed with the tallest gear a 1.0 ratio lol.

I ran 4.10 with the stock 265s so a 31 tire. I got the best mileage I ever got lol. The 3.55s suck for how heavy these pigs are.
