Exclamation Having some trans slipping issues..

Hello!
New to Dodgeforum. I've had my ram for about 6 years now. it has treated me well. now I'm just having some trans issues and i am looking for some help!

I know that the second gen rams had quite a few issues in the trans department. I'm at bout 170K miles now and the slip is getting pretty bad. What I'm noticing is that when i turn around while still rolling its like it comes out of gear and then slams back in. Also now I'm noticing that at steady high speeds (70+) it will come out of gear for a split second and then drop back in.

I have heard that doing a solenoid upgrade (governor pressure solenoid/sensor and speed sensor) can help fix this issue. Anyone here heard anything like that or have any tips for a fix?

I believe that i have the 46RE trans. I have a 2001 ram 1500 2wd with the 318.

Also, anyone know the fluid capacity? Not including draining the TC. Just the regular fluid/filter change when dropping the pan.

THANKS!!
Ryan

"Turning around" as in doing a U-turn? Check your fluid level. It's common enough for low fluid level to show itself as slipping during turns or at higher than usual angles -- the fluid moves away from the filter and the pump sucks air.

But, ya know, at 170,000 that transmission's statistically ready for an end of life failure. If you want to keep the truck for a long time and only replace the transmission once, go for a PATC Viper or Mega Viper. Accept no substitutes.
