Default Looking for a transfer case

Hello,

My transfer case recently started making a fair amount of noise.

I'm either in the market for a new one, or would like advice as far as rebuilding one.

Thanks in advance

Drop the rear drive shaft, pull the tailhousing off the t-case, and see if the snap-ring abandoned shaft...... Fairly standard failure.

Ah,

That's super convenient. I was going to put some new U joints on anyway.. They don't seem terrible, but I figured I would rule them out as an additional producer of noise.

Many Thanks!

quick question,

What is the easiest way to know if you have a np231 np241 or np243? Do you know off the top of your head? I'm ordering the transfer case saver to be installed regardless of the c clip's status...

If the transfer case is already making noise, is it likely too late for the saver to be of any good?

thanks again

There is a tag on the back side of the t-case. It's round, metal, and should have a red checkered pattern around the edge, or some such. It will have the t-case model number stamped on it. Chances are real good you have an NP231D though. (that's what came stock)
