New girl
Hey all. I'm Allison from Colorado. I have a quick question about my oil psi. So earlier today it was at 40psi on the gauge anyway and I kinda hauled *** around this guy going to slow haha anyways after that my check gauges flashed and turned off hasn't came back on but the oil psi keeps fluctuating when I step on the gas it gets up to about 70 or 80 psi but when I coast it stays at 40. What would be to high of a psi (obviously I don't want it to hit the 110 mark right )?
Sincerely
The girl who's confused

Oil pressure will vary some...... So long as it stays above 10PSI at idle, you are fine. Rule of thumb is: 10 psi at idle, plus 10 psi per 1000 rpm.
If your pressure bottoms out on 'hard' maneuvers, or at stops, check level first.... then take a long hard look at the sending unit. They have some interesting failure modes.
Fixed your plenum yet?

Howdy, Neighbor. That gauge is essentially a feel-good device that is only accurate by accident every now and then and is driven by firmware rather than direct connection to the sending unit. The thing to watch out for is deviations from normal behavior.
Given your description, my first guess is that you're a tad more than a quart low on engine oil and it's been a bit too long since the last oil change. Am I right?
