Default ECU replacement part number

I have a parts truck that I bought for cheap because it wasn't running. I've been working to get it started, and finally came to the conclusion it was the ECU. I swapped in the ECU from my daily driver. Fired right up.

Now the question is, which part number should I use when buying the ECU? My daily driver part number P56040 892. The parts truck has a reman unit with number P65949 440AD.
Both trucks are 5.9L 4x4 automatic with catalytic converter. Daily driver is a 1996 other is 1997.
How much does it matter?

Thanks for the help.

Not much at all. At least, not until you start getting into the 98 model year trucks. If it works, that's all you really need to know.

If you are just going to order one up from the parts store, get the one correct for the truck it is going in. Let them worry about the part number.

The goal is to swap parts and then sell the running parts truck to break even. I'll probably just pick up a used ECU. Just shopping and wondering if I should pursue the best price, or wait to find the correct number.

So long as you get one from a truck 96-97, with the same engine/trans combo, should be golden.
