Default Ring gear bolts sheared off, want to weld ring gear to carrier

As the title suggest, my ring gear bolt heads sheared off somehow and I drove it for about 800 miles after I heard things rattling inside my differential and had time to pull the cover off, basically I'll need a new differential eventually, but in the short term I figure since the bolt studs are still in place keeping the ring gear on (believe it or not still moveable) but not secured I want to weld the ring gear to the carrier.

There really is no love lost on this diff so I'm not worried about eventually even taking it apart, as I'll just take it out!

Has anyone ever done this?

well if you weld it, your goanna destroy that tone ring, by by speedo, ABS brakes, or both..also you will cause a a lot of warp in the ring gear or diff or both ,you'd never be able to set your backlash which I think is less than .010" then there's another problem, your always goanna be wondering if the weld is goanna hold up or is the rear end going to lock up at 60+ mph sending you into oncoming traffic...id say don't do it, the bads out way the goods..lol..

Carrier is cast metal and gear is hardened.
Do not do that. XXXX That is absolutely not the way to go.
Never, ever I would recommend doing this.
Big NO NO!!!

What is that (bottom left of the carrier)? Is that the bolt heads rounded so much they look like ball bearings? You need to take out the carrier and see what else is going on in there. And do not weld it, It's not all that difficult to put in new bolts(if that's all it needs).

Bad plan. You won't ever be able to get a good weld there, and having your rear diff blow up while driving would be far to exciting, and downright dangerous. Fix it right. Your life could depend on it, not to mention the lives of others sharing the road with you.
