Default axle shaft failure

So I went in the woods fishing with my little guy and on the way back we rode the trail and found some mud to send flying and than one thing led to another.

I couldn't let go of the throttle because I would have get stuck really bad.

The wheel almost fell on the floor when I jacked the truck in the garage. I had all of these parts in my hand last week while replacing the wheel bearing. Everything was nice and tight, only a very slight play in the U joint.

Anyways, is it a common chain reaction of an axle failure or I missed something while working on the truck?

Big tires, heavy truck, lots of power equals broken parts.

Yeah that's pretty much what my story was when I told the wife lol.

I'm impressed that both ball joints broke tho.

Probably, the u-joint blew apart first, and that let the inner axle float.... it gets to a point where it interferes with rotation of other parts at the knuckle, and somethin's gotta give.

Definitely went floating, I just noticed some dents on the end of the inner shaft.

Path of least resistance for the ball joints, I'm glad nothing more broke.
