Default Steering Gear Pittman Arm Nut Size? Please?

2001 Ram 3/4T 4x4 w/V10.

This millimeter and inch thing is killing me. Some things are standard, and some are millimeter. I wish they'd go one way or the other.

Okay, my 1 1/4" socket will not fit. I went to my reloading bench and broke out the calibrated Brown & Sharp calipers and a clean nut shows 1.280" exactly across the flats. This corresponds to 1 9/32"? What the hell? Or is it 32 or 33mm?

Before I buy a large wrench and mill it large enough, I'd like to use the right sized tool.

Thank you.

If you're going to mill it, mill it to your specs.

But, I feel your pain. Then add in Torx, SAE and metric allens...

Okay, a 1 5/16 fits and the nut came off easily. Now I just need a large two armed puller for the Pittman Arm. I knew something was wrong, everything came off to easily.

Well crap. Even with a Pitman Arm puller, it is frozen solid. I will have to spend a couple days heating and cooling with the Bernzo-Matic plus judicious quantities of PB Blaster it should eventually come off. If not, hell I'll just buy another Arm and go from there.

Just peeled off the absorbent wrap from the RedHead steering gear input end. The splines on the input shaft are so smashed up there is no way I will be able to get the pinch nut on it. Dang!! Have to call them in the morning and send them pics.
