Default 98 1500 Transmission seal question

Hi, I have a 98 Ram 1500 with 46re and 5.2 v8, I have a leak from the bellhousing of transmission fluid, so I guess I need to change the front seal. How hard is this besides dropping the tranny?

Drop the trans, pull the converter, change the seal. 4-6 hours, depending 2 or 4wd.

Of course, JUST changing the seal may only be a temporary fix...... While you are in there, trying to figure out WHY it started leaking would be a really good idea.

Have same problem. What would be the most likely reasons for leak other than bad seal?

Bad pump, or converter.

There's a grommet/seal where the dipstick goes into the trannie--mine was bad and leaked oil there. Fairly easy to check & replace. Very inexpensive part found in the Help section of Autozone, O'reilly's, etc.

Because ATF+4 is so thin, a leak anywhere in the area can look like a leak from the bellhousing.
