Newer vehicles prc is firecracker red.
This is my first painting projects is my 97 ram and looking to paint entire truck.
Got everything stripped off the truck and want to proceed slowly on a few minor spots other than the outer shell.
My main question is that Pearl coat may be harder to paint than a solid color so do I continue with the factory color or change colors.
I want black but not sure how a complete color change might turn out.
The other latest prc color code doe's not mention Pearl in it.
Is it the exact same red?
If it is the same and without Pearl I would still be happy with that being my first project.
Fyi.. the whole outer body will be covered with polyester primer.
Any good pointers would be a great help.
I did buy quality tools and supply's to do the job right. Can only blame myself if I mess it up.lol

Now I find more info saying that 1997 ram 1500 ex cab and reg cab prc code is metallic red.
Prc is on the door jamb.
Finding conflicting info on what the actual formula might be.

 

Get a build sheet for your truck, either from the dealer, or, there is a link for it here in the FAQ/DIY section. That will tell you what color it really is.

 

You need to look up the paint code/s for your truck. You can find it in a few places one being the sticker under the hood. The other is the sticker on the door jam and on the build plate on the front of the truck.
