9.25 housing changes?
Okay, I tried to search for an answer for this question, but was unsuccessful. I have a 01 1500 with the Off Road package and was having some rear end noise. The noise was chalked up to one or more bad bearings, so a Yukon bearing kit was purchased to replace the bearings. Upon tear down it was discovered that one of the clips that "holds" the limited slip discs had broken and turned into a lathe on the passenger side of the housing and and the bearing retainer. It removed so much metal from the housing and cut a groove so close to the threads for the carrier bearing retainer bolts that it has been determined that i need a replacement housing/axle. The bearing kit that I purchased (Yukon 11099) only fits 01-10. What changed to necessitate a different bearing kit for 94-00 and 01-10? Did the housing change? Am I limited to a 01 (or possibly newer) replacement axle housing? Can I use my carrier/gears/shafts in an older housing with a different bearing kit? What are my options? Thanks!
I don't know the answers as this is a solid dilemma, but if it were me, and I needed my rig up and running, I would source a used rear and have it rebuilt with that year's bearings with the 4.10 ring and pinion. If something was changed by Chrysler in 01, the gears should still work.
