Default rear end/gears what all do i need and should i get?

i have an 01 ram 1500 with the 5.9L and 33" all terrains on it....needless to say the acceleration and gas sucks...
in the glove box it says i have the following options:

DGB Transmission 4-speed A
DGT Transmission 4-spd. Au
DHA Torque Converter - Lock-
DMD Axel Ratio - 3.55
DRB Axel - Rear, Corporate 9
DSA Axel - Anti-Spin Differe

i bought the truck used and i really am not sure what all of that means....what should i do to regain some of the acceleration(more important) and gas mileage back(less important but would be nice)?

You will either have to go back to the OEM size tire [I am not sure what that would be, someone in the forum would know] or re-gear, if you re-gear it you will need ring+pinion and bearing set. I would atleast replace the axle seals also while its down[I would do the wheel bearings to - but thats just my opinion], you will also need to get a speed corrector [Superlift,Tru-speed] or have a dealer reprogram for your speedo if they can. 4.10's work good with 33's, my brother runs that combo and gets 14.5 on the hiway with very good acceleration and his is a 4wd.

oem tire size isnt an option i was thinking regear....i had done a little reading and seen the 4.10's work well with the 33's...u said a bearing set would be good while im down there, i've only got 48k miles on it...would you say the bearings are neccessary(keep in mind im in college and my extra spending cash is tight)?

as an added note, i've calculated that im getting around 11mpg highway right now...i should probly add a drop in K&N too

I would recommend new bearings for the new gearset most definately, axle seals also, you can get 2 of them from Randy's Ring and Pinion or Reider Racing for about $10 to $12. I did the wheel bearings in mine also-it was around $40 for 2 of them.I did not want to have to go into the rear end again any time soon.

i dont plan on doing this work myself, i'm just going to take it to a local shop with the parts and ask to have it put in....what exactly do i need to look for(mind you i know almost nothing about this stuff) and what price range would you say would be good for the 4.10 ring and pinion?

Your going to have to shop around but this link will give you an idea of the prices of some different manufacturers ring and pinion sets , mind you I have never ordered from this place but you can check it out - http://www.accuautoparts.com/list1.jsp, make sure your truck specifics are right [top of list] as it shows you their gear sets, bearing sets and seal prices. You could call Reider Racing at 734-946-1330 or Randy's Ring and Pinion at 425-348-9002 and tell them what you want and see what they quote you.I have no idea what the "shop" rate would be to install them, I am sure somebody on this forum would have an idea, maybe even a place with a current sale on the parts. Make sure you get your original gears back as you can always sell them on ebay believe it or not !
