I have a 2001 Ram 1500 5.9 4x4 and when I went to start it the other day it became very difficult to start and will not stay running unless the gas pedal is held down. I assumed it was a fuel issue so I replaced the fuel pump and the issue persisted, right now I believe it is a vacuum leak because I found a hose disconnected in the engine bay but Im not sure where its supposed to be connected to. It is connected to something that sits behind the front axle (the red oval in the picture) and currently routes up into the engine bay, but im not sure if that is the way it is supposed to go or where it is supposed to go to.
Im including pictures, the hose Im inquiring about is the one with the white arrow, I can see where it is connected on one side but not where it is supposed to go from there. Any help is greatly appreciated. Sorry about crappy pictures, the truck is outside and its pretty late and dark.
The truck dies after just a few seconds unless you keep your foot on the pedal, there is no idle. The shop I took it to said that was a break booster line that had popped off but they wanted to charge me $800 for a tune up and to clean the throttle body and I can't afford to pay them that for stuff I can do myself, and I was worried that after making the recommended changes, the truck will till be the same
Cleaning the throttle body is cheap and easy. It's a 2 dollar gasket under it, plus a can or two of carb cleaner, and you are set. Pull the IAC motor on the back of the tb, and clean the well of crap. Just wipe off the pintle on the IAC itself.... Have the battery disconnected while you are doing this......
After you get it back together, hook the battery up, turn the key to "on", count to ten, then start the truck. Don't touch the gas. See if it will start and idle.
