Default 2000 ram 1500 46re reads -40 degrees.

Hi I decided to purchase a rebuilt 46re tranny for my 2000 ram 1500, after the old one was slipping. Well I got the new tranny put in and drove it realized it was not going in to overdrive, so brought it back hooked the scan tool up to it and went to the data stream trans temp was reading -40 and the truck is at operating temp. I have no codes. My question could that be the temp sensor inside the tranny or could it be the pcm not interpreting the data correctly and how do I test?

I believe the governor sensor senses trans temp. They are common failures in these transmissions.

Either bad or not the correct one for your model year truck.

Is there a way to test the sensor?

No that I know of. You could try to do an ohms reading.

Check for continuity/ohms across pin 3 (black/light blue) and pin 8 (violet) at the 8-pin connector on the trans. Remove the connector and check on the TRANS.

Likewise (and probably I would do this first) check for continuity/ohms at connector "C2" pin 1 (violet) and "C1" pin 4 (black/light blue) on the PCM. These are the same two wires as above, but you also checking the wires as well as the sensor.

What year was the new trans? If it's out of something older than 2000, need to change the governor pressure sensor.
