Default remote keyless installation

Has anyone added the keyless entry to their Dodge? How involved to install?

Many folks have. The level of complexity is determined by just which system you want to install, and what options your truck has. If you don't have power locks, you, of course, need to install them...... If *all* you want is remote keyless entry, it's just getting the little box, and splicing a couple wires.

Those "couple" of wires are in a hard to reach spot in the panel near the drivers left foot. Doable but can be a tad frustrating. Dodge planned on YOU adding it later, so they shortened the wires, so you cannot pull them out enough, to **** you off.

My module (something like $15 on eBay) did not come with a beep of any kind. But it did have 2 park light flash outputs. Since I have LED's (low current draw), I only used one for the lights and one for a little radio shack buzzer. Woo Hoo, now I have audio too.

Yeah, and make sure you use the correct wires when you splice... My keyless entry will lock itself on its own after the doors have been opened because they PO didn't splice something right, meaning it doesn't know when the doors have been opened.

Funny story, bought the truck few years ago used from a stealership. They brought it inside the garage for me to look over it since it was raining out. Salesman starts the truck running when we go back there to check it out. Opens the door and says hop in and take a look over things so I did. While i'm looking over the inside he pops the hood and opens it up. Says come check out the engine bay. So I get out and shut the door and head for the engine bay. Dam thing locks the doors after like 30 seconds because it never knew the doors opened after he started it. They also didn't have a spare set of keys so it took 2 salesmen and one mechanic to block the door while they ran a wire hanger in to unlock the door. They were knuckleheads.

Needless to say, I need to find a wiring diagram and figure out which wire is not spliced...

Mine was easy. Took it to a shop and they installed it. Love it and have had it for over 15 years. Good thing is we don't need to pay extra for the override like the newer ones do so it's cheaper.

You may want to start a new thread...

Your problem could be simply one of programming. It may automatically re-lock. Mine will lock the doors only once, whether they were closed or open. And, only unlocks them once, when I shut off the truck. Does it lock the doors automatically after you shut off the truck, like in 60 seconds (considered "passive" locking or arming). Did you get an owners manual for that type of system? Or tried googling a manual? The module should be fairly obvious up under the dash somewhere. Unless it's an alarm too, and someone thought needed to try to hide it. What I'm saying is that your module may not be smart enough to know when you open the doors. It may not have a sense input (usually "dome") for that.

The other thought is to check where it picks up the ignition "on" sense. Or the the dome sense. If your actual dome light is switched off (or manually switched on) does that make a difference?

I was only jabbering my issues for the OP in case he decides to do it himself but I may do that... I would like to figure it out on my own so maybe a thread on the whole procedure with pics would be cool, maybe it will help others and you guys with knowledge can help me out.
