I have a 01 ram 1500 with 160k miles and I'm going to put new plugs in it. I've done a little research and have looked at E3 and NGK plugs. I'm not 100% sure on what plugs would be better. The truck completely stock and I just replaced the plug wires. I'd like a second opinion to help me get some good spark plugs. Thanks

 

Neither! E3's are junk and the tips erode off. Plain copper autolites are all you need.

 

I use Autolite Platinum plugs and have been very happy with them. They perform very well and last a very long time. They are low cost and readily available. I've found that more expensive plugs are a waste of money when used with the 5.2/5.9 gas motors.

 

Engines run best with OEM.

 

I've always run NGK plugs and prefer them in all my vehicles/toys/equipment. I only run NGK and they haven't let me down one single time. Run em in my truck, muscle car, dirt bike, motorcycle, snowmobiles, lawnmower weed eater, car and SUV.

 

i have same year and mileage as you, i use the NGK copper, nothing fancy, they work good

Jkeaton, which ones are the OEM? would that be Mopar? i don't mind spending extra on certain items as long as it's not too expensive

 

I've used NGK copper plugs had the dang things break up on 3 cylinders so i went to autolites no problems since.

 

Whichever type (copper, platinum, etc) the vehicle was equipped with from the factory. Stated on the under hood emissions label. If that is gone for some reason, parts stores will be able to tell you.

 

I've tried the Autolite,Champion, and NGK coppers. Mine runs a hair better with the NGKs

 

Stock is Champion RC12LC4 but if you don't like the long tip, use the 94-97 shorter RC12YC. I have used Autolites twice and never will again. My truck doesn't like them although it idled smoother, which was the only benefit. The absolute best plugs were Champion Truck Plugs in 4071 (equivalent to RC12YC) but they were discontinued.

People seem to like either OEM Champion, Autolite, or NGK. In any case, use regular copper plugs, not platinum, iridium, etc. You'll have to change them every 30-50k but it's an easy job.
