Default transfer case question on second gen

i have the second gen 1997 and was wondering if the 2001 will be the same.
nvg part number is 32104
serial number ad807118

No, it won't. The 98 and up t-case won't have the provision for the gear driven VSS on the tailshaft, and the shift pattern is different. I think t-case shifter mounting is different as well. You need the t-case from a 94-97 truck.

But what if you changed the tailhousing and the stuff for the sensor and the shifter ?

The output shaft doesn't have the provision for the gear either, as far as I know. Could you mix and match parts, to make one that would work? Don't know.... Maybe..... But, if you are going to tear them both down, why not just buy a rebuild kit instead of another t-case? Rebuild what ya got.
