1st gear shifting problem
I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 2wd with a 5.9 gas motor with an automatic tranny. When I take off the rpms rise to about 2500 rpms before shifting into 2nd. All of the other gears seam to shift pretty smoothe. The 2nd issue is sometimes when the overdrive kicks in it starts out around 3500 rpms. Do you have any ideas?
Thanks
Thanks
i don't understand your question . please explain in detail exactly what it does . the overdrive should not engage until after the trans shifts into third.
how long has it had this problem?
if it has an aftermarket high stall converter it can rev up fairly high before the truck gets going . if it feels like it is slipping in first and has a stock converter the trans may be junk.
if it takes off normally but shifts late into second and shifts really hard into second the clutches and bands are ok and the prob would be in an area i am not familiar with on this exact trans . if it was an old school trans this issue could be caused by a bad governor or the addition of a shift kit in the valve body or no vacuum to the vacuum modulator . i have a trans prob also so i am in a similar boat as you . hope you get it fixed.
