Intake gasket... the issue appeared worse because the mechanic who changed out the plugs apparently did NOT tighten them (3 of them) but by hand and they rattled loose causing those 3 cyclinders to run lean. Unbelievable.
They still have it, didn't have time to replace the gasket on Friday once they knew. Also said the upper radiator hose seemed stiff so they were going to check for head gasket leaks. This is odd, truck has run flawlessly since I've had it 4+ years and only has 75k on it.
The deposits will still be there, regardless of what they do. (unless they change the coolant..... ) If you trust them, see what they have to say. I am just not all that trusting any more......
Oh I hear you... because of the one hour drive (not very convenient for me) is why I went to a local shop (who botched the plugs instsll). They are pretty trusting-thoroughbred diesel shop who is always booked a few months in advance referred them and I've been taking my trucks to them ever since. Also, I just replaced the radiator about a month ago (cracked resovior) . Not sure what verification I can get due to didistance. .... may have to take their word on it BUT it would be nice to verify..
If they want to pull the heads, just replace them. Don't bother doing anything at all with 'em. The deck castings are rather thin, and are prone to cracking around the valve seats. So, if they need to come off, get some NEW replacement heads, with thicker deck castings. They are available from Odessa/Clearwater cylinder head service, for under 600 bucks on Ebay.
****... let's not hope so just yet. An unwanted bill at this time. Funny I had a 94 dodge ram 2500 V10 with no engine issues. Got rid of it at 200k to get a 98 12 valve. But I'll want them to verify somehow/someway.
