So I had some front end issues 97 ram 1500. Got new front u joints, right stub shaft and bearing, steering feels better and no horrible squealing.

Looking today it seems there is oil pooling on the part below the u joint on both front sides. It was black on my finger, could it be water and grease or is it diff oil?

I have never noticed any spots on my driveway before, it's not really at the point of dripping yet, just pooling. My front diff did take 100ml of oil after 2 months of driving so maybe this is where I've been losing it? Should I take back to mechanic?

 

Likely gear lube from the front axle. Unfortunately, when the axles are pulled to change the joints, the seals may suffer during the exercise, and, they start leaking. Gotta disassemble the whole axle to do the drivers side, passenger side is a little easier.....

 

Give it a little time. I've had four sets of ujoints installed over the years and two sets of seals. After the job, there's always a little leakage. And when I would park on a lean, it would dribble out. Been dry last couple years. The axle tubes can hold some oil and when the axle is pulled out, it will dribble down the tube. If it gets worse or stays constant for at least two weeks of driving, then take it back. If it goes away, you're in the clear! Just check the oil level at some point.

 

I am parking on a slight slope now. There is no drops on the ground from when I looked at it 16 hours ago. I guess maybe wipe down where it looked wet and I'll check it tomorrow, check the diff fluid in a couple days. Thanks
