Default Case Porosity and Metal Fatigue Starter Cast

The Ram 1500 86K Makes noise in gear but not in park and neutral. I wouldn't believe this is the problem. Oil smells burnt and particles in it. Rebuilding it with another case.

Looking at the metal, yeah, there were some voids there, but, it looks like the majority of it is a fresh break. Real curious what happened there.....

That's what I thought. If you look at the piece that cracked off, it's old dirt not new. You also can see a few old stress cracks in the piece that came off and in the case. The black lines. The case, you can see the black area where the piece came off, it's not suppose to be that color. Should be silver all the way through if it's a new crack. The starter came off easy. Lots of pressure in that area when the starter kicks over. Probably just finally crapped it self. No problem starting the motor. Onward to see what's inside the case, most likely nothing.
