Almost forgot. Double check before you put that pass seal in. I can't remember if the inner axle fits through it. I want to say no. You do not want to install that seal twice. I think the axle has to go back in first if I remember

I think you are correct, the axle needs to be in there, before the seal is installed.

Put a thick rag where the pinion teeth and the ring gear teeth mesh together. First the bearing caps need to be marked and put on the same way/position they were taken off. I've done 60+ carrier removals and installation and about 10 of them were putting gears in. I have never used a case spreader. If you can wrench you can do this. Doing it yourself, priceless.

Thanks fellas. Still no luck though. Today I pulled the inner axle to the end of the tube, but not out. Fully disengaged, as I could feel the end splines in the CAD housing, and the other end was just sticking out the end of the tube. Every bolt I attempted to try on just kept turning.... Getting frustrated with this. I'm thinking when I do get this out, I will have a few stripped and broken bolts. I called around regarding the axle. Another reputable shop quoted me $105. It about 35 minutes drive away though.

I am at a loss. I can't see why that thing is in there that tight. Shouldn't be. I would say fora last ditch attempt stuff the rag in there and put something in front of the carrier to catch it and turn the pinion yoke from the other side with a pipe wrench or bar like hey you mentioned. If the axle are out it has to come out. I would not wAnt to have to drop the whole axle out for this. In sure it's frustrating but I would give it the one more shot. Once it's comes out you can replace the bolts. Get good grade 8's from fastenall maybe

Sorry if the last line in my last post wasnt clear, I was on my phone at work, trying to be fast. So it was in regards to having the ujoints pressed back in. The shop I called today has a reputation for being fair and honest, they quoted me 105 to press in the joints. However they are already being done (hopefully) at the other shop that said it would be 150, I will mention the other shops qoute when I pick em up. I will try what you are talking about denn. I will turn from the yolk side with a breaker bar, also might try the come along around the frame. The tie rod is still attached and is pretty close to the carrier so I figure it will keep the carrier from dropping onto the parking lot, in case Im wrong I have a pair of old jeans folded up in front of the pumpkin to give it a soft landing. Once its out , I will fix all the broken/stripped bolts on the back of the carrier, then clean out the axle tubes, reinstall the carrier and the inner axle on the passenger side (half shaft) then install the new seals .....Do I need any sealant ?? Then reinstall the CAD, outer axle shafts and new hubs (in that order)... I didnt mention that I still need to either replace the power steering pump or figure out where its leaking, and also replace the serpentine belt which was pretty worn out. I also still have one of the broken cad bolts stuck in the axle..hoping the last 5 days of pb blaster and a propane torch on the next attempt get er done. Got plenty of work cut out for me still, but I feel like once the carrier is out I will be over the hump...hopefully

This is getting ridiculous ! Spent most of the day trying nothing other than getting this carrier out. Still No luck, it seems like it may have moved the slightest bit, but im not sure. I tried turnin the yolk, even wedged in 2 big screwdrivers between the yolks to get more leverage, then took a notch further and used my garage jack under the screwdrivers . it started lifting the truck up, but the carrier wasnt moving. I used a ratchet strap tie down, hooked one end to the frame, wrapped the other around the more open side of the carrier and ratcheted away, this is where it may have moved, but with the tension being uneven I wasnt sure of I should continue, plus it wouldnt go much more. I was wondering if it strap pulling from one side would bind up the carrier on the other side. Either way, Im feeling pretty defeated at this point. I do believe this is the most difficult physical wrenching job Ive ever attempted. Really dont know what else to try. Case spreader isnt an option. Any other ideas ? Im probably gonna give turning it out one or maybe 2 more tries before ....

Still been trying to turn it clockwise as this is what tightens the carrier bolts. Which way were you guys turning the carrier when you removed it ? I must have broken at least 3 of them by now. Tomorrow will be a full week that Ive been stuck at this point.

Ah, pics! Because I am old school (or just old), I keep forgetting about that option. This day and age, it's a boon for these kind of problems. I've walked my sister through fixing electrical problems with pics, long distance.

Maybe now for than ever, a picture is worth a thousand words...
