Default Downhill Clunking?

Hi,

I have a 1999 Ram 1500 Sport 4x4, 70,000 miles, no lift, 5.2L... when driving downhill if I let up on the gas pedal just a little, but not all the way, I get a chugging motion or “unlocking & locking” feeling in the drive train. I have checked and rechecked the u-joints, but there seems to be no movement. There is some play in the rear diff… maybe ½ inch… not much. It has been getting a little worse everyday for the last year or so. There is no transmission slippage or hesitation on acceleration and this is only noticeable when coasting…i.e. when the engine and driveline are not under a load. Can anyone tell me what is wrong or what area to even look? All fluids are normal color and smell, and are at the correct level. HELP!

Kevin
