Default 2001 Dodge Ram 1500, fuel guage inaccurate and intermittent

the pump read a quarter tank when empty and it reds empty when full at other times.

Might be getting on toward time to replace it. Unfortunately, it's the entire pump module.... Get a good one, should you decide to replace it. Unless you like doing it on a regular basis.

Verify the connections and such, the usual drill, but, if the truck runs fine, likely gonna have to bite the bullet.

When I had my 97 ram that was my early indicator. My fuel gauge was acting up for about 3 weeks then my pump went out completely. I don't really recommend the eBay pumps but I won't lie; I did put one in that truck and it's been in there about 4 years now and for over 70,000 miles. My buddy drives that truck everyday back and fourth to work and for towing cars.
