Default 97 ram 1500 code p0740

I need some help I'm no good with transmissions what so ever and I had the code p0740 come up. I bought the truck and it had no codes and ran perfectly but it had some really bad choppy tires. I bought new tires but I went down on size from a 285/75r16 to a 265/75r16 and then after about a few miles with new tires the code has come up. All I have done is a fluid and filter change on the transmission. The torque converter locks up in 1,2,3, and about half the time in OD. There is no slipping there is no rough shifting and it shifts through all gears. The transmission is great besides it doesn't want to lock up in OD half the time since the new tires.

Are you sure that you are noticing the TCC lock up in 1and 2? I don't think it's supposed to...

You might want to replace something soon, before it becomes a bigger issue. I'd start with the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. I'd probably also do the OD solenoid assembly. And, you might as well adjust the bands too.

I don't know anything about transmission but fluid and filter changes. Other than that I'm lost. And this is my first dodge but I have no clue where the solenoids are at or how to change them and I don't make enough money to take it to a shop.

All that I mentioned are inside the trans. You would have to drop the trans pan.

Download a service manual for your truck here:
