Default remote starters?

Hey, I am wanting to know a few things before I get a remote starter for my truck. First of all, I don't already have keyless entry with my truck, but it does have power locks. I was looking to get one of those systems like Bulldog alarms or something. The kind that includes keyless entry and remote start etc. My question is, can I install this kind of system on my 2001 dodge ram slt larime and have keyless entry when it didn't come factory. Basically will this work for my truck since it doesn't already have keyless entry. Also what brands and types of remote starters do you guys prefer? Are they hard to install? Thanks. -Tyler

All you need is the power locks. the alarm system hooks up to them and takes care of the remote stuff. As far as the remote start it can hook up to any car/truck although stick is a bit trickier. I am not sure of any specific brands I have had a quite of few in past cars all seemed to do fine. If you are semi good with wires etc than you should be able to hook it up with the instructions. I am not so I always had my friend who does installation for that stuff do that for my cars.

I put a Designtech (brand) on the wife's last year and am putting one one on mine shortly, funny how that works huh?
They are relatively easy if you can do the wiring work. A buddy has installed several different brands for other people
over the years and said he prefers the Designtech brand over Bulldog for a few reasons, which I do not remember now,
but the link that shott gave looks like a quality kit too.

I have the viper alarm with keyless entry and remote start. Costs a pretty penny but its worth it. You can start your car from up to 3/4 away if there are no buildings and stuff in the way. Also has the display that shows the car and what circuits have been broken if your alarm goes off. The remote it self makes a noise if the alarm is going off and the car is to far away to hear. I love this alarm, definatly worth the money.

its fun stuff.

Shott8283,
Thanks for the link, but the auction was done on that one. I think that I found another one just like it. Check out this link and tell me if its the right one.

tyler... no problem on the site.. yea thats the right one...its really great b/c you contact them with your year make model and they give you a sheet of what wires to tap into and where they are located and it has the description of the keyless too to help you out on the keyless entry.... if i was still working at the stereo shop i coulda got it really low price...unfortunatly the store is under new management so i dont know any the of the guys that work there so i couldnt weel and deal them.... but i got the one for the wfies car off there and the auction ended at 69 bux .. i used to sell them for 150 at the store about a year and a half ago when they first came out with that line...now they are upgraded and a better version.. for that one...personally id bid around 100...witch was my max for the one i got a few weeks ago... again if you need anyhelp pm me and i can help either over the net or over the fone... but really it isnt hard at all goodluck!!!!

Shott, can I ask you a couple of questions? I too used to be a MECP certified installer, but that was years ago. I have the Viper alarm with remote start and keyless entry as well as power window controls. Can you tell me if I need a resistor for the headlight flash, and is the door locks a 5 wire set up like GM where I have to wire up the 2 relays? Thanks.
