Look inside the wheel well and you'll see plastic buttons that attach the black cover to the gray piece. Remove these, lift the black trim back level and secure with zip ties. You'll notice a row of teeth that grab the trim.
I did this about 12 years ago and still looks new. Kind of funny, haven't heard this question since about 2005.

An extra set of hands really helps. I think it's only 6 bolts that hold the bumper on and it is able to move a lot when you crack them loose. I had to straighten mine out when I pumped a guard rail a couple winters ago.
A sport bumper will bolt up but it'll have a gap under the grille because the sport grille dips down into the bumper a little.
