I recently purchased a 97 ram 1500 with the 5.9 and the transfer case blew up on me. I have access to a dodge dakota 4.7 transfer case and was wondering if they interchange. Did a little research and believe they do but I would need a different out put shaft? Any advice on if they interchange and what all it entails would be greatly appreciated.

 

What year dakota?

You likely need an NV231D, they can be found in 94-97 Ram 1500's. there are minor differences between auto, and manual transmissions, but, I think they will swap directly. Get the right one, shouldn't be that difficult to find one.

 

Stick in one of these while you have the good one out.
