Ok, well it seems other than a new set of tires and alignment, A overall deep tune up and run until she needs it will be in order.

I do want to do a project motor (Mainly to get the kids hands dirty and away from the TV) If I do take the advice and get different heads etc, how hard is it to tune the computer with all the non factory stock components?

My other truck is a carburated 350 chevy, I have zero trepidation tearing that motor down (which i have) and working on. It has a total of (2) sets of wires to the motor. One to the alternator, and one to a temp gauge. So when I look at the 1,000,000,000,000 miles of wire under the hood in the dodge, I wonder about tuning the computer by changing away from stock components.

The new heads are stock replacements. Just better castings. Unless you do things like a cam, better flowing heads (larger valves), etc, you won't need a custom tune for it.

If these trucks that were designed in the early 90s scare you, what the heck does a modern truck look like?!?

You'd have a heart attack if you ever opened the hood on a diesel since about 2010. . .
