94 Manual Transmission Swap

And even 318's have blown up the NV3500.
I suspect it has more to do with driving style, than engine output. If you beat on anything, it isn't going to last. If you take care of it, it will last forever. Sure, the 360 doesn't put out that much more power, but, combine that with a 6000 pound truck, a heavy foot, and folks that like to dump the clutch, and it would be a warranty nightmare.

Nah, Dodge and all companies used manual trans back in the day to meet EPA regulations. The auto trans would get 12 to 16mpg whereas the manual truck SAME configuration has a sticker of 13/17 respectively (I still have my Monroney). Chevy used the NV3500 as well behind the 305 4wd (friend in HS had one that he always let me drive). Ford used something else - maybe a Getrag, but who cares about ford? And they all also used manuals behind V6 2wd base trucks. But once the Hemi came out with better mileage, autos began disappearing and were completely gone by 2009.
Uh oh, I'm heading down memory lane now:
. . . back in the day, in a world long before cell phones and farcebook killings, one could order a truck with zero options which meant manually operated everything: seats, windows, radio, trans, and even choke! Then "options" included electronic stuff like windows, seats, and auto trans. Now days there isn't a single manual truck anywhere across the entire globe mated to a V8. There isn't even a manual in any half-ton anywhere! Stupid, stupid, stupid.
I'm not arguing with Heyyou, just ranting in general. I can't see plopping down the kind of coin they want for a pickup with nothing on it I want. Ugh. So I guess if there's hope in putting a 360 in front of my nv3500 that is still perfect at 218k, I can still enjoy my truck past the 16 year mark. In fact, tomorrow I'm heading back to MN on another road trip totaling 3800 miles. yippee!

Yeah, seems americans are too lazy to shift gears. I LEARNED on a manual trans car. (with an FM radio as the ONLY option. ) Seems the Europeans are the ones that like their manuals...... I am not moving there.
I don't do well with manuals anymore anyway though...... Life kinda put the kabosh on that one. I *Can*, but, I prefer not to. It's just easier for me. (yep, lazy american. )
