Default 97 v10 no fuel

Hey all,
Down to no fuel pressure but have spark. Have voltage at crank and cam sensors, voltage at fuel pump when key is turned but then ASD. Cam sensor is new yesterday. Crank sensor is new 2 years ago. Is this a crank sensor problem to shut down fuel?

NOpe. If you have voltage at the pump for a few seconds when the key is turned on, you either have a bad ground, or a failed pump.

Well that would suck. Pump was new right before crank sensor.

Napa or echlin. Has a limited lifetime warranty and I bought it through my previous employer but don't have the receipt. Napa can't find a record of the transaction based off of the part number so I need to figure out when i bought it to see if they can find it that way.

Why would the 12v power to the pump shut off right after turning on the ignition? It still gets the constant 8v on the common wire.

I think your common wire is likely the feed for the gas gauge.

PCM only energizes ASD relay, (which also trips the fuel pump relay) for three seconds at key on, or, if it sees the engine turning. (crank sensor signal) The initial three seconds is to pressurize the system a bit before you actually attempt to start.

Since this pump only lasted about two years...... If you end up eating the cost, spend the money, and get a delphi, or denso brand pump. (OEM suppliers....) and you likely won't have to worry about it ever again.

Before spending money though, make sure the pump ground is good.

Got wiring diagrams? If not, download the service manual from here.

Thanks for the link on the service manual, that should help a lot. On last stupid question, will the pump make noise when it turns on? I have seen people talk about hearing their pump which is something I have never payed attention to until now. Mine currently doesn't make any noise when ignition turned on.

If you listen carefully, when you turn the key on, you SHOULD hear the pump cycle. If you don't, that's not a good sign..... For giggles, you could try thumping on the bottom of the tank a couple time, while someone else cranks the motor, and see if it'll start. Even if it does though, I would still change the pump. (after you check the ground, to make sure that it is indeed the pump that is bad, and not the circuit itself. )

When's I tested for voltage at the pump I used the ground pin on the plug, wouldn't that mean my ground is good?

Yep, it would. There are at least two grounds back there though, one for the pump, in pin 6, and another for the fuel level, in pin 4. They are both black, wire for the pump is a bit larger though. (16g vs. 20g) Did you use the right one?
