CAD is the Central Axle Disconnect - there is a large round splined hunk of metal that goes over the passenger side axle to engage 4WD. You can access it via the inspection cover on the front axle. The cover is held in place by 4 small bolts.

After you pull out the axle shaft (passenger side) you can see the gear and pin in the cad from the axle tube. They should go back together with out issue if you are careful.

In that case I would say nothing. I pulled it out and put it back and didn't mess with anything else.

It indeed went back in without any issue.

I would still be very tempted to open up the cad, and have a look, in it's 'parked' position, in 4x2, (not engaged) the collar resides on the outboard part of the axle, which you removed. I wouldn't be surprised if it hadn't fallen into the axle........

Or, it may have stayed there, and everything is fine. I think there are some bushings that are supposed to be in there was well, but, I would have to look at the parts manual to be sure.

Might want to jack up the front end, put the truck in 4x4, (in park, engine running.) and see if the front axle engages.
