My 2001 ram's a/c gave out on me this morning. The compressor clutch is spinning while idle and their is pressure in the valves. I tried to add new refrigerant but that never helped the air is still hot as hell
Check pressures before just adding refrigerant. An overcharged system is just as bad as an undercharged system.
If the compressor is doing what it is supposed to, likely your problem is elsewhere. Check the little motor that controls the blend door. The coupler between it, and the axle it rotates is notorious for cracking, and then the door just sorta flops around. You will find it on the bottom of the heater box, just to the passenger side of the trans tunnel. Held on by two screws, one of which is a real bear to get to.

Totally agree on the over pressure scenario. On that note make sure the pressure is within correct range, could be a clog or stoppage somewhere in the system not allowing the gas to flow properly.
