The infamous transmission problems
Ok so this has probably been answered a billion times but I really need to know what the main cause of this is b4 i just buy another transmission.... I have a 97 1500 4x4 it has the 5.9l 360 in it with the 46re trans... The truck pulls strong shifts great until the trans mission is warmed up No lights come on or anything the transmission just stops working all together... It dosent even try to move... I turn the truck off let the transmission cool completely and repeat the process Its perfect until it's warm then nothing as if there isn't even a transmission even installed... So my question what is going on here how do i fix this... Is it just something simple or do i need to rebuild or replace the transmission
Did you check fluid level? Check pressures to see what you have.

Fluid lvl is good... What should pressure lvls b I also tried adding a little more fluid to up the pressure to see if that would work but still same resalts.. bands maybe? Heating up and expanding causing it to stop working... I figured maybe slip but this one just shuts down
I've fixed a handful of transmissions with the exact issue. It seems to happen more to 94-97 transmissions; I believe due to the filter design without the plastic housing. The bare filter seems to pick up more junk off the bottom of the pan.
I've found The transmissions with the same issue is that some dirt got sucked through the filter and packed into the pump gears and cavities. The dirt scores the pump gears and once everything warms up the clearances become too large and can't pressurize the fluid enough. The fix is a remanufactured pump, not just replacing the gears. Usually the pump body is also scored.
