Default 1995 Ram no OD light when button pressed, worth fixing?

I need to do a few more fillups to get an even better average but I get ~15mpg in town which is fine by me in my 95 5.2 w/224k miles on the odo, better than my old v6 3.9 01 w/154k got actually, but that thing had the 17" stock dodge rims from that year plus pretty big tires, I think 275/65/r17s, but the 5.2 95 has 245/65/16's(stock size I think?), I honestly did like the pumped up look the 3.9 truck had, it honestly might have even had a 2" body lift since I kinda had to hop in the truck, but it only ever got like 12mpg at best

I only ever drove the 01 3.9 in OD though even in town since I heard OD actually helps vehicles get a bit better MPG, and if this 5.2 can get 15 in town with no OD I'm wondering if it's even worth fixing, I believe since mine is OBD1 that I'd have the 46RH? The 46RE started in 1996 if I'm correct from what I read before.

If I'm correct, the overdrive solenoid was pretty easy to replace in the electronic later year trans but I'm not sure how much time and trouble it would even be in my older model to fix, it drives and sounds pretty good, maybe an old owner stupidly burnt out the OD towing with it or something -shrug-

If it could help me get a little better mpg, fixing the OD would end up paying for itself after some time is basically what I'm thinking lol.

Pressing the OD button turns the OD off for towing. Your OD is probably works just fine. Does your truck shift 3 times?

if the od button is part of the shift lever....the wiring breaks for the od button breaks as it exits the lever....remove the column trim and inspect.

oh ok, maybe mine works indeed then, I've just never seen the dash light up or anything in the cluster, mine is the older style for 94-97 (I think?) where it's a button in the dash by the AC controls, 98-01 (02 for 2500 :P) had it in the shifter, mine does shift several times, maybe it just being older the light went out after all these years

Easy way to tell would be to find a nice, long, flat, stretch of road, where the speed limit is 55 or higher. Get up to cruising speed, and hit the button, should seem RPM jump significantly.
