He said the thing was "bone dry". He had checked the diff and confirmed everything was fine there. Atleast just by inspecting without taking the cover off. The transfer case i can believe only because like i said i dmhave been hearing a "whinning noise" similar to a truck with large tires. I dont have large tires just tge normal 265/75/16 as i live 30 miles from NYC so big tires for me doesnt make sense. Ill find out more tomorrow and let you know.

Okay so i havent heard from the mechanic yet in regards to my shifting issue. However iv been doing a **** ton of research and i do remember the mechanics at aamco saying my TPS was bad. Do you think a bad tps can cause the shifting issues. Based on what iv read so far about certain symptoms of a failing tps that sound more of what im experiencing then a slipping trans.

It's possible. TPS has more effect on TCC engagement though. (bouncing in and out at steady state throttle.) Wouldn't hold my breath though.

Update
The mechanic at the second shop couldnt really work on my truck till monday so i brought it home to do the two sensors in the tranny. Let me back pedal a little, mechanic said he couldnt physically see anything wrong with the tranny as there are no trouble codes. Now i replaced both sensors changed the filter and replaced the gasket. After i had the pan down i checked the bands, the front seemed fine very little movement maybe 1/8 the reverse band there was significant movement. I didnt adjust the bands because thats something i dont wanna **** up so ill just have the mech do it. After i completed the work took it for a test drive and even after warm the tranny now shifts in all gears. When i dropped the pan there was some metal flakes and tge magnet had grey gook all over it. Is that normal? Now like i said it does shift thru all the gears not exactly smooth from 2 to 3 and it shifts at an high rpm then normal. I didnt WOT but i did punch it a bit from time to time and again the rpms just go up and it doesnt shift like it supposed to. Any thoughts? I did also change the TPS and rear speed sensor as sometime the abs light would come on.

The grey goop is pretty normal for a high mileage trans.

Adjusting the bands may solve the rest of your issues.

These transmissions already have issues shifting at WOT...... so, don't be surprised if that is indeed the case.

If the fluid wasn't too bad, probably don't need to drop the valve body. Adjusting the bands really isn't that bad either. Just gotta have the right tools.

Lets us know how it all works out.
