Default Odd Radio Issue

Tried replacing my stock radio (bottom) with an Infinity system radio (top) in my 01 Ram. It's a regular cab so only has door speakers and rear speakers, no tweeters, no infinity system. I tried the radio in my Jeep that has the Infinity system and it works great. When I tried it in my truck it worked great, until I messed with the Mid setting, music sounded better but then I smelled electrical and a little bit of smoke came out of the radio. I shut it off and unplugged it. Tried it in the Jeep again and it was fine. I'm wondering if the Infinity system is wired differently because of the amp and tweeters and such and that is why that radio doesn't like my non Infinity set up. Any input on this dilemma?

Yes, the speaker outputs on the infinity systems are pre-amp outputs. (low power) Try and drive speakers that aren't amplified with it, and yeah, you will let the magic smoke out.
