I have a 1998 Doge ram 1500. I was driving at about 65mph when blam bam rumble. Stopped as fast as I could,, at first I thought I just dropped my driving because I had just replaced the u joints... So I get out real quick to find yea my drivline barely holding on to the rear differential but definitely off the front you...so I just threw the drivline in back and thought I was able to put it in four-wheel drive. Well that wasn't working, so i looked underneath to see my transfers case BLOWN in two. I

It happens. Time to replace it. Check the round tag on the back side of the t-case, it will tell you what model you have. (likely NP231D) You can get one from any 98-01 1500 4x4.

Welcome to DF! Moving this to the second gen ram section for ya.

Install a "Transfer Case Saver" on your new one. It replaces a snap ring in the tail housing with a collar. It lets the output shaft slide ahead and grenades the T case.

To be a bit more clear, the snap-ring falls out, and allows the shaft to walk.
