Default New to this section, 5.9 questions

I usually hang around in the 1st gen dakora section but need advice from this section.

Anyways, recently got a parts truck with a nv3500 and have been thinking of doing the motor swap and trans swap all at once. Especially if this parts truck needs a new flywheel. No need to replace the flywheel twice.

Anyways, my question is, does anyone know what mopar did to get the 360 from 230 claimed hp to 245 hp? I found one thread somewhere else saying it was done in the tuning. But didn't find anywhere else. Also, would a 98+ 5.9 have the center already missing out of the intake? As I'd do the poor mans mods (keg mod and tb mod) before I put the engine in my dakota. (Even if they do next to nothing or very little I see no reason not to)

Thanks for any and all info. (Oh, I know the 5.9 didn't come with an nv3500 but with extensive research it'll work great for me.)

I am fairly certain the increased hp was simply due to tuning, as so far as I know, there weren't any other changes made to the engine between 97 and 98. EGR went away with the 96 model year, but, HP numbers didn't change..... I *think* the center divider was gone in 98, but, it may have been a mid-year change.... so, thats gonna be a crap shoot.

In all reality, cutting the center divider out wasn't that bad of a job. Just time consuming. I think I poked at my intake for my 96 for a week or so, on and off, before it was ready to be cleaned up, and installed. (I bought an intake from a 97 to mod, and then just swapped 'em.)

Kegger mod moves the power band up a couple hundred RPM. No additional power to be had there, just where ya get it. Throttle body mod IS worthwhile, simply for the better throttle response.

The NV3500 never came behind the 360 from the factory, but, plenty of folks have put one there anyway. Seems to survive ok, even in the full-sized trucks, so, in your lighter Dakota, shouldn't be an issue. (depending on your driving style. )
