Intake gaskets ?
A bead of silicone works just fine, and is less likely to get pinched-out when you torque the manifold.
Biggest problem I have seen with the end gaskets though, is folks not cleaning out the little holes the '****' in the gaskets go into to keep them in place.
Really, its six of one, half-dozen of the other......

like "hey you" it is easy to push the rear gasket out of place when installing the manifold. it was especially difficult in my 95 ram because of the egr tube that fits into the rear of the manifold.
1. I used the gaskets. just be careful and slow when positioning the manifold. you cannot see the rear of the manifold area but I could feel to detect if the gasket slips out of place.
2. evidently it is ok. I have no leaks at the manifold gaskets (after 5000 miles)

Cutting the heads off a few of the old manifold bolts, and using them as guide pins to hold gaskets in place, and allow you to set the manifold straight down onto all the gaskets is a plus too.
