Default 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 42RE

I am getting Code P0753 Shift Solenoid A Electrical. I look at Autozone and they 2 solenoids 1) Overdrive and 2) Governor? Which one would be the shift solenoid? Trucks seems to be in limp mode. Only get 3rd gear. 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 2 wheel drive 42RE transmission. I reset check engine light and P0753 comes back as soon as I started it. I reset it with a scan tool and well and disconnecting the battery. Any help would be appreciated.

That would be the O/D solenoid. Verify you are getting power down TO the trans.

I assume I will have to drop pan and disconnect plug from solenoid and check for 12 volts? Just turn on to check for voltage?

Nope, there is an 8 pin connector on the trans, drivers side, 'bout halfway back. It can be hard to see if you have 4 wheel drive.... plugs straight down into the top of the valve body. You can unplug that, and the fat red wire should have 12 volts with the engine running. (or, for about 3 seconds when you just turn the ignition on.... without starting.)

Not necessarily. Might be a blown fuse, bad relay, broken wire..... many possibilities.

Do I have to remove valve body to replace the shift solenoid?

Nope. Drop the pan, pull the filter, sensor and solenoid are right there.

Not really. Especially if you have a 4x4. Crawl under and have a look, you'll see what I mean.
