Purple wire with yellow strip behind alternator. Single wire. 1996 ram 1500 with 5.2

 

That's the coolant temp sensor connector for the temp gauge on your dash. Should be on the front of the intake manifold, either next to the thermostat housing, or on the passenger side behind the alternator. Your gonna need a new one.

there are 2 listed for your truck, make sure you get the one terminal one when you buy the new one.
