Default Temperature Gauge Issues

The temp gauge will go all the way to hot not all the time but some time it will always move when I turn the key on. Even if the truck has sat all night. A guy said it was the ground but I've cleaned all the grounds are clean and tight. Do you add another ground and if so here?
It's driving me nuts.

1999 dodge 3500
Morning All. I have a 1999 dodge 3500. Great truck. But the temperature gauge will move to super hot even when the truck has not run all night.
Can someone tell why.

Try a cluster test. Hold the Trip Reset button down, and turn the ignition to "on". (not start) All the gauges should do a full sweep. If the temp gauge doesn't, theres the problem. If the gauge tests good, then you likely have a bad connection somewhere. Does the engine run strange when the gauge freaks out?
