Post Oh that burning oil smell...How nice.

So the passed few days I have noticed that smell of oil running down the side of the engine and on to something warm. Not that my inter hot rod has a problem with the smell but, I know it can't be good.

Day one, passed it off as someone elses' POS in front of me.

Day two, opened the hood and looked under for signs of oil flow outside of the engine, none.

Day three, started touching things under the hood to find the fresh oil. When I got to the valve cover I found it. Turns out bolts work best when they are more then setting in the hole. Yup, most where finger tight at best. Border line falling out. Now I don't know when the last time anyone checked these or did any work near them but I've only had the truck a month maybe two. Anyway, I tightened the ones I could get to on both sides but there is no realistic way of getting to the top bolts on the right side without taking off the plenum and that is a domino effect I don't have time for right now.

The moral of today's story is,

Moral #2, Always check your nuts and bolts!!

What year and engine? On my 96 318 all the valve cover bolts are real easy to get to. Especially on the passenger side.

He has the 8.0, and the intake goes right over top of the passenger side valve cover. You can't get at anything on the side of the motor without pulling the top half of the intake out of the way.....
