Default Engine interchange

What year engines will be a fairly easy swap into my 96 1500 with 318? And will a 318 from a van work?

Depends, what year is the van? The intake made some changes over the years...

Was 92 still the old LA block? If so, it won't work. Too much is different.

I can't find a solid answer on when the switch was made. According to Wikipedia it ended in 91. Some forums say 92.

318 went to the magnum version in 92, 360 in 93. So, technically, the 92 318 block should work. (check the angle of the intake manifold bolts. Should go straight down into the heads.)
