Not sure if it's an exhaust leak, lifter, rod or whatever. Trucks currently not movable because of a blown tire so I can't take it in to have it checked out so I figured I'd get some input until I can take it in. This is after a cold start and after it wasn't started for a few days and did seem to fade a little after running for a few minutes. It's a noticeable tick and seems to be on the drivers side. 5.2 liter.

Hhhhmmmm..... could be a rod, could be valve train noise, might even be an exhaust leak.... How's the oil pressure look?

Where at in Michigan?

Have you checked your oil level lately? If good, probably lifter noise cause your truck's been sitting and all the oil may have drained from filter to pan. Did the sound eventually go away? My 4.7 ticks at cold start then quickly smooths out. Goes away quicker since I made the switch to 0W-20 syn.

I'll have to check pressure later but I'm hoping it's nothing major cause I can't see why it would be. And west Michigan. Fremont to be exact. I asked you the same thing a few years ago lol.

Probably should check the oil but haven't been driving it lately so that doesn't help. It did seem like the noise was starting to get a little quieter but I only had it running for a few minutes to let it idle and make sure the battery wasn't dead. I could see it being that the oil drained since I haven't done nothing but start it here and there since I haven't been driving it.

I’d bet a bad lifter in there. Hard to tell though since you can’t drive it to see if it goes away when up to speed.

Ah yes, other side of the state. Don't make it there real often.

Crank up the engine, and see what the oil pressure gauge has to say..... let it warm all the way to temp, and see how much it drops off.

I feel rather confident that its not an exhaust leak as the one I had and have heard have a more airy sound and not so metallic. I also wouldn't expect it to be THAT loud when not under load, that would be one MAJOR leak.
